Members of the European Parliament called on the National Council of the Slovak Republic to REJECT the harmful amendment to the Constitution

Members of the European Parliament expressed serious concerns about the government’s proposed amendment to the Constitution. In their letter, they wrote:

“We understand that the proposed amendments to the Constitution contain provisions that, if adopted, would significantly undermine the protection and enjoyment of fundamental human rights, rule of law and democracy in Slovakia by restricting the application of European Union law and international human rights treaties ratified by the Slovak Republic in a wide range of areas, including private and family life, healthcare, and education. We are particularly concerned that under the pretense of protecting national identity, the proposed amendments would restrict the human rights of marginalised individuals, including children, women, and LGBTIQ+ persons, and would severely harm them and their families.”
